7 Summits: A Nurse’s Quest to Conquer Mountaineering and Life is an inspirational book detailing one nurse's journey to the top of the world! Patrick Hickey, a nursing educator, became the first nurse in the world to successfully summit the highest mountains on each of the seven continents.

As a child, Patrick Hickey dreamed of faraway places and adventure. He overcame academic challenges to achieve his goals in higher education.

This book gives a compelling account of how he balanced life in academia, work as a nurse, school, and home with a strong desire for travel and adventure. The book explores the broader perspectives of goal setting, motivation, dedication, and the pursuit of challenge in the face of extreme adversity.

These are further clarified in what the author has described as the "7 Summits of Life" which are represented by:

  • Attitude,

  • Balance,

  • Success,

  • Potential,

  • Goals,

  • Wellness, and

  • Legacy.

The pursuit of the "7 Summits of Life" are discussed as they apply both to the mountains and our daily lives as both students and nurses.
