Unlike other medical dictionaries, the Coders’ Dictionary from Ingenix lays the groundwork for understanding medical terminology from a coding perspective, enhancing a coder’s ability to interpret a medical record and more efficiently code a claim.

Whereas a typical medical dictionary seeks to define a term for the clinical practitioner, the Ingenix Coders’ Dictionary seeks to define a term for the clinical coder, effectively laying the groundwork for understanding medical terminology from a coding perspective. It’s the only book of its kind available, specific to the needs of medical coders, admitting clerks, billers and adjudicators. This is the only dictionary created for coders by coders.

  • More than 7,500 alphabetic entries and 250 illustrations for terminology key to code selection. Find definitions for medical nomenclature, eponyms, new technology and acronyms.
  • Clear, concise definitions for clinical, coding, billing and reimbursement terms are all incorporated. No need to use multiple print or electronic references to access medical definitions.
  • Detailed illustrations visually convey definitions. Medical terminology, where applicable, is accompanied by illustrations to improve understanding of the definition itself.
  • Locate the definitions needed quickly and with ease. Definitions are cross-referenced and tabbed to make searching fast.
  • Earn CEUs from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

Please remember: The government no longer allows a grace period for annual code sets. The new HIPAA Transaction and Code Set Rule requires providers to use national medical code sets that are valid at the time that a service is provided. ICD-9-CM code revisions become effective October 1st each year while CPT and HCPCS code revisions become effective January 1st. In order for you to meet this requirement, you must have the revised CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9-CM codes in your possession before the implementation dates. The best way to do this is to order your code books early. Review current coding resources.
