Written by the CPT coding staff, this book provides the official AMA interpretations and explanations for each CPT code and guideline change in CPT codes.

Changes made each year to the CPT code set affect reporting and reimbursement for medical services. CPT Changes: An Insider’s View provides not only specific CPT changes, but also explains the official rationale behind the changes and the impact they will have on your coding practices. You will know the reasons behind every code addition or revision for the year. Recommended by the AMA, this book serves as a reference tool for understanding each of the CPT code changes in CPT for the current year. With this resource, you will have an understanding of all of the guideline changes:

  • Detailed rationales provide an explanation behind every code addition, revision, and deletion.
  • Review of current year's changes. Includes all new, revised and deleted codes with detailed rationale for the changes.
  • Includes real-life clinical examples and illustrations to help you understand the practical situations for which the codes would be appropriately reported.
  • Organized by CPT code section and code number, just like the CPT book.
  • "At-a-glance" tabular review of code and guideline changes for the year.
  • Discussion of the code’s place in a section. Learn how this affects other codes.
  • Coding and billing tips for new and changed codes. Includes discussion of rules and guidelines for billing the featured codes.
  • Earn AAPC CEUs, 1 per scenario. Fulfills American Academy of Professional Coders certified membership accreditation requirements for eligible coders.

"I can't imagine using CPT codes without this book. Every CPT code user should have one." Doody's Review

"This annual edition of the CPT code changes is an essential reference for the CPT coder and biller." - LouAnn Schraffenberger, MBA, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P (University of Illinois at Chicago School of Biomed & Health Info Management)

Please remember: The government no longer allows a grace period for annual code sets. The new HIPAA Transaction and Code Set Rule requires providers to use national medical code sets that are valid at the time that a service is provided. ICD-9-CM code revisions become effective October 1st each year while CPT and HCPCS code revisions become effective January 1st. In order for you to meet this requirement, you must have the revised CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9-CM codes in your possession before the implementation dates. The best way to do this is to order your code books early. Review current coding resources.
