With the explosion of managed care, high profits in the physician practice are no longer a given.

Even the most successful practices must manage costs effectively to stay viable. But, how should we do that - without compromising quality of care or increasing liabilities? Recommended by the AMA, this practical, how-to book addresses how physicians and administrators can devise and implement cost-cutting measures that can ultimately increase their bottom line. Cutting Costs in the Physician Practice include practical information on how to:

  • Attain cost savings with proper use of technology – EMRs, E-mail, Websites, Clinical and Business Application, HIPAA Compliance

  • Negotiate leases and determine whether you should buy or rent

  • Reduce the cost of accountants, bookkeeping services

  • Choose vendors wisely, including Practice Management vendors and Electronic Medical Record System vendors

  • Use value-added services to reduce overhead by participating in independent practice associations, professional associations and other purchasing cooperatives.

  • Identify key areas where your own costs are more likely to become unmanageable, and implement solutions that have been successful in other practices

  • Review your practice operations and identify other areas of concern

  • Recruit and retain good employees and practitioners

  • Determine the optimal organization structure for your practice

  • Build a stronger, financially secure practice

Armed with this knowledge, physicians can better put their resource to work - building a stronger, financially secure practice. Even the most successful practice must manage costs effectively to stay viable.

Written by experience consultants, this book identifies key areas in medical practices where costs are most likely to spin out of control and offers solutions that have proven successful in other practices.
