DRG PLUS! is designed as the ultimate DRG selection tool for hospital and payer coding staff.

Featuring a comprehensive introduction and tutorial on DRG selection, this comprehensive reference includes all official DRG codes with assigned ICD-9-CM codes based upon CMS Grouper currently effective.

DRG PLUS! is arranged by Major Diagnostic Category (MDC) code. Each Major Diagnostic Category includes:

  • Color-coded tree diagram illustrating the DRG structure for the Major Diagnostic Category.

  • Listing of all DRG codes assigned to the Major Diagnostic Category along with the Geometric Mean Length of Stay (GMLOS), Arithmetic Mean Length of Stay (AMLOS) and Relative Weight (RW) for each DRG.

  • Listing of all ICD-9-CM procedure and diagnoses codes with full descriptions assigned to each DRG within the Major Diagnostic Category. Color-coding and symbols are used extensively to alert the user to important Medicare edits.

  • Detailed descriptions of patient attributes which define each DRG in the Major Diagnostic Category.

  • Procedure codes are categorized as operating room procedures or non-operating room procedures. Diagnosis codes are categorized as principal diagnosis, principal or secondary diagnosis, secondary diagnosis, or only secondary diagnosis.

DRG PLUS! features the extensive use of symbols and color coding to help you identify Medicare edits such as:

  • Manifestations not allowed as principal diagnosis

  • Non-specific principal diagnosis

  • Non-specific operating room procedures

DRG PLUS! includes a comprehensive color-coded index of ICD-9-CM to MDC/DRG codes to help you find and select the correct DRG quickly and easily. An appendix provides supplemental information to clarify DRG coding issues and improve the DRG selection process. Appendices include:

  • Index of ICD-9-CM code to MDC/DRG

  • Index of DRG/MDC to ICD-9-CM codes

  • Diagnoses Defined as Complications or Comorbidities Exclusion List (CC)

  • MS-DRG to Relative Weight Index

  • Medicare Prospective Payment System Selected Percentile Lengths of Stay

  • Fiscal Year MS-LTC-DRGs, Relative Weights, Geometric Average Length of Stay, Short-Stay Outlier Threshold, and IPPS Comparable Threshold

About the book version: PMIC uses Smythe-Sewn® binding. In the Smythe-Sewn binding process the pages of the book are first sewn together, then bound into the cover. The result is a book that is virtually indestructible and that lays flat during use.

PMIC was founded in 1986. By 1989, from a humble one-book beginning, PMIC became the nation's leading independent publisher and value-added reseller of medical coding, reimbursement and practice management books with a reputation for quality, service and value. Coding and compliance information changes constantly and it is our job to keep up with it so you don't have to. You can trust us to provide you with books that contain the most complete, current, accurate and "official" information available. While our books win a lot of awards, what is more important to us is that our customers love them. That's because we consider our books as "tools" and spend a lot of time thinking about how, when and where our customers will use our products. You can order with confidence, knowing that you will always receive the best, most innovative books available. Because of the industry standard features we introduced to this market, such as spiral binding, thumb-indexing, enhanced color-coding and compact sizing, our publications represent exceptional values to our customers.

Please remember that the government no longer allows a grace period for annual code sets. The new HIPAA Transaction and Code Set Rule requires providers to use national medical code sets that are valid at the time that a service is provided. ICD-9-CM code revisions become effective October 1st each year while CPT and HCPCS code revisions become effective January 1st. In order for you to meet this requirement, you must have the revised CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9-CM codes in your possession before the implementation dates. The best way to do this is to order your code books early. Review current coding resources.
