James Johnson, PhD, MPA, MS is a medical social scientist and a Professor in the Dow College of Health Professions at Central Michigan University. He was previously Chair of the Department of Health Administration and Policy at the Medical University of South Carolina. He teaches courses in organizational behavior and development, international health, systems thinking, and community health. Dr. Johnson's publications include 100 articles and 10 books on a wide range of health care issues. He is past editor of the Journal of Healthcare Management published by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and past editor of the Journal of Management Practice. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) and currently serves on the scientific advisory board of the National Diabetes Trust Foundation. Dr Johnson has traveled to and worked in 21 different countries. He also works with the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland and has involved many students in this activity. He completed his masters degree at Auburn University and Ph.D. at Florida State University.

Donald J. Breckon, MA, MPH, PhD, is president emeritus of Park University in Parkville, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City. Dr. Breckon served in a variety of faculty and administrative positions at Central Michigan University over a 24-year period. He was a professor of health education and health science while holding consecutive appointments as Assistant Dean of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics; Associate Dean of Education, Health, and Human Services; and Acting Dean of Graduate Studies/Associate Vice Provost for Research. He developed the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in public health education and health promotion, hospital health education and health promotion, and allied health education. He was also instrumental in developing the Master of Science in Health Administration, and taught in the program for many years. He has published approximately 150 articles in more than 30 professional journals, along with 12 chapters in various books of readings, 15 monographs, and 3 college textbooks, one of which was the first edition of this book.
