Medical Coding Specialists Exam Review Physician provides experience, tips, and essential skills necessary to take and pass both the AAPC and the AHIMA national coding exams.

This resource provides readers with information on the national organizations, the types of exams given, how to prepare for each exam, tips on taking standardized tests as well as information on mentally preparing for each exam.

The book also provides learners with information on employment opportunities in medical insurance coding and the professional responsibilities that can accompany this profession. Mock exams can be found both in the book and in the accompanying CD-ROM. Benefits for you include:

  • Covers three exams: AHIMA's CCS-P and CCA exams and AAPC's CPC exam.

  • Contains full mock exams for each of these tests in the back of the book. Contains two of each of these exams on the accompanying CD-ROM.

  • Provides exercises throughout the book to help prepare test takers.

  • Explains prerequisites for the exams plus job outlooks once a student gains certification.

Please remember that the government no longer allows a grace period for annual code sets. The new HIPAA Transaction and Code Set Rule requires providers to use national medical code sets that are valid at the time that a service is provided. ICD-9-CM code revisions become effective October 1st each year while CPT and HCPCS code revisions become effective January 1st. In order for you to meet this requirement, you must have the revised CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9-CM codes in your possession before the implementation dates. The best way to do this is to order your code books early. Review current coding resources.
