Revised and expanded, the second edition of Principles of CPT Coding Workbook (formerly the CPT Coding Workbook) lays a foundation for understanding coding by providing detailed examples designed to strengthen coding skills. In-depth instruction on key coding concepts is provided by CPT code section with extensive coding scenarios and operative procedure exercises given at the end of each chapter to test knowledge. A detailed answer key with comprehensive rationales walk the reader through the process of code assignment. This book was developed as a companion to the bestseller Principles of CPT Coding to provide additional coding instruction and exercises, and can also be used as a stand-alone teaching tool.

This new book also offers:

  • An extensive answer key to aid instructors in developing quizzes and tests
  • Can be used by consultants, managers and coders both in and out of the classroom
  • Written by the AMA's CPT coding experts in a joint effort with advisors in specialty societies
  • Definitions and detailed examples for usage are given for each code set
  • Coding tips provide elements to look for to correctly assign codes
  • Exercises follow each chapter and are in multiple formats - true/false, multiple choice and scenario reporting - more than 90 in all
  • Practical and effective for preparation for CPC and CCS-P tests
  • Expert Guidance - AMA experts and specialty society advisors explain difficult coding concepts
  • Multiple format learning - True/false, multiple choice, matching and scenario reporting exercises allow readers to gauge and refine understanding
  • American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) CEU approved

Please remember: The government no longer allows a grace period for annual code sets. The new HIPAA Transaction and Code Set Rule requires providers to use national medical code sets that are valid at the time that a service is provided. ICD-9-CM code revisions become effective October 1st each year while CPT and HCPCS code revisions become effective January 1st. In order for you to meet this requirement, you must have the revised CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9-CM codes in your possession before the implementation dates. The best way to do this is to order your code books early. Review current coding resources.
