The Institute for Healthcare Improvement piqued interest in rapid response teams (RRT) with the announcement of its 100,000 Lives Campaign. Since then, the concept has garnered a great deal of media attention - from the Wall Street Journal and The New York Times to small-town newspapers and television stations. Many prospective patients are choosing hospitals based on whether they employ these life-saving crews.

This book is loaded with proven implementation strategies. You may be considering taking advantage of such a program.  At present, more than 2,500 hospitals are reaping the benefits of RRTs. RRTs are established to catch emergencies before they occur, thereby reducing adverse events in critically ill patients.

Your facility may have time or financial constraints, but when you consider the findings of a clinical trial involving RRTs, you can't afford not to start an RRT. A pioneering Australian medical center reported a 50% drop in adverse events and a 36.9% reduction in the postoperative hospital mortality rate after implementing an RRT. This book gives you all the tools and information you need to achieve similar results at your facility, saving you time, money, and patient lives. It provides you with the know-how to put a team in place. It is loaded with forms and case studies that will help you push your organization over the hump by:

  • explaining the RRT concept and defining the need within your organization

  • identifying lessons learned through case studies of hospitals that have successfully implemented RRTs

  • explaining how to overcome obstacles that arise during the implementation process

  • defining the RRT concept and how it can benefit your organization

  • providing guidance on what should happen during RRT implementation, including tips on using SBAR to improve communication

  • examining how to monitor and share RRT outcomes
