The book and CD-ROM set, The Comprehensive Guide to Credentialing and Privileging for Ambulatory Surgery, is the resource that helps ASC administrators and their credentialing staff gain a thorough understanding of the credentialing and privileging process.

Whether your ambulatory surgery center (ASC) is JCAHO- or AAAHC-accredited, the time-intensive documentation and deadlines involved make credentialing and privileging a persistent and unwelcome challenge. In fact, the credentialing and privileging standard has been a top JCAHO problematic standard for years. In 2003, the Joint Commission gave 19% of all ambulatory organizations Type I's for failing to consistently obtain credential criteria from licensed independent physicians. This issue is so confusing that the AAAHC created a new subchapter in its standards handbook to clarify credentialing requirements.

Whether you're a new or seasoned administrator, this book offers simple, how-to explanations on a range of topics, from the basics of credentialing to how to understand reappointment accreditation requirements to how to deal with impaired physicians. No credentialing stone is left unturned, with detailed coverage of tricky topics including how to deal with:

  • primary and secondary source verification

  • fast-track credentialing

  • economic credentialing

  • credentialing allied health professionals

  • disruptive physicians

  • peer review

  • reappointment cycles

  • consistent credentialing

These answers to common ASC credentialing and privileging questions provide a foundation for the process. This book answers questions such as:

  • who must be credentialed?

  • what is the difference between credentialing and privileging?

  • what is the difference between credentialing and credentials verification?

  • how does an ambulatory surgery center process an application?

  • how long does it take an organization to process an application?

  • what is fast-track credentialing?

The bonus CD-ROM contains about 95 forms, checklists, policies, and sample letters to make your ASC credentialing and privileging challenges more manageable. Do you want to streamline your processes and keep from reinventing the wheel? This book and CD set does the work for you with sample letters and policies on the accompanying CD-ROM. Writing letters to request and verify your physicians' credentials can be a cumbersome task.  The included documents range from an initial application checklist to a peer review referral form to a letter requesting verification of insurance and claims experience. Examples of the customizable templates include:

  • Position description for the credentials committee chair

  • Sample policy regarding credentials committee composition and meetings
