This is the bi-weekly newspaper for health care and medical executives.

AHA News contains late-breaking news on and insight from the field. With reporters in Chicago and Washington, AHA News covers how federal and state government and marketplace changes affect hospitals and health care systems. Each issue includes concise, accurate, and balanced news, features, and trends. Also contains AHA perspectives on the news and a listing of AHA educational programs, products and publications.

Running a hospital, no matter what kind it is, requires business savvy. AHA News' coverage of health care business keeps executives up to date on hospital mergers and acquisitions, new openings, closings, the capital market and other business news they need to keep in tune.

Hospital executives learn from AHA News how their peers across the nation are meeting the same challenges that they face. For instance, our roundup of the 2003 blackout in the northeastern U.S. and Canada focused on the lessons that hospitals learned about what worked - and didn't work - during the emergency. Our exclusive Eye on Patients column provides similar help to hospital execs seeking to improve the quality of care and patient safety in their organizations.

Our Capitol Hill report keeps hospital executives on top of what's happening in Congress that affects how they run their hospitals. We provide the latest news on the national debate regarding the funding and regulatory legislation that is key to health care's functioning today. And, our coverage of Washington and health care policy extends far beyond Capitol Hill. We keep executives up to date on activities in the White House, the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, MedPAC, JCAHO and other governmental and quasi-governmental agencies that have a daily impact on how hospitals are run.

In addition, we report regularly about best practices nationwide in the recruitment and retention of workforces. And our AHA Today section regularly tackles hard issues such as racial and ethnic disparities in health care, providing care to illegal aliens, and finding ways to improve the collective health of our communities.

Successful hospital executives keep up with the latest advances in technology and their application to health care with AHA News' technology reporting. They get alerts to new trends in technology, how hospitals use that technology, and hospital efforts to improve patient outcomes and bottom lines.

AHA News is read by senior management and board members in hospitals, health systems and other institutions. Its focus is news - not opinions, features, or commentary. Readers find incisive reporting on current and strategic events facing Medicare and Medicaid funding, managed care, regulations, the business environment, physician and nurse relationships, and topics in the spotlight of national health care policy debates.

It is not necessary to be a member of AHA in order to subscribe and benefit from this tremendous expertise. The American Hospital Association (AHA) is the national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. Close to 5,000 hospitals, health care systems, networks, other providers of care and 37,000 individual members come together to form the AHA.

Through our representation and advocacy activities, AHA ensures that members' perspectives and needs are heard and addressed in national health policy development, legislative and regulatory debates, and judicial matters. Our advocacy efforts include the legislative and executive branches and include the legislative and regulatory arenas. Founded in 1898, the AHA provides education for health care leaders and is a source of information on health care issues and trends.
