The Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association is targeted to the needs of people in the biomedical and health professions who use informatics in their work. AMIA's bimonthly journal, JAMIA, presents peer-reviewed articles that assist physicians, informaticians, scientists, nurses, and other health care professionals develop and apply medical informatics to patient care, teaching, research, and health care administration. The American Medical Informatics Association is the premier organization in the United States dedicated to the development and application of medical informatics in the support of patient care, teaching, research, and health care administration. It is not necessary to be a member of AMIA in order to subscribe to this Journal and benefit from this tremendous expertise and knowledge. JAMIA has rapidly established a reputation for presenting high-quality, cutting-edge information. Each issue contains state-of-the-art reviews, discussion forums, and invited editorials presented as brief reviews or full-length papers. A variety of formats accommodates work at all stages, from model formulation through definitive studies. In the most recent ISI rankings, JAMIA was the leader in impact factor among all journals in health informatics.
The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) membership organization of individuals, institutions, and corporations dedicated to developing and using information technologies to improve health care. AMIA was formed in 1990 by the merger of three organizations - the American Association for Medical Systems and Informatics (AAMSI), the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI), and the Symposium on Computer Applications in Medical Care (SCAMC). The 3,200 members of AMIA include physicians, nurses, computer and information scientists, biomedical engineers, medical librarians, and academic researchers and educators. AMIA is the official United States representative organization to the International Medical Informatics Association. On behalf of its members, AMIA participates in health care initiatives and serves in advisory and associated roles to other organizations in an effort to pool talent and resources to advance mutual interests.
